For imaging, MIL-Lite X includes a vast range of image capture and manipulation functions, including frame capture, white balance and level, tone mapping, offset correction, sharpening, gradation correction, blackening, white balancing, histogram control, and gamma correction. System software updates can be delivered in a variety of ways, including direct download from the Matrox Website, FTP server, FTP mirror, or patch application to the imaging software application itself. Updates can be delivered at any time, and include incremental and complete updates. Interrupted downloads have been tested successfully in the field. 34, 35
The MIL-Lite X Operating System (OS) is intuitive and readily adapts to new computer hardware, video output options, or screen display options. The Operating System can operate in Real Time or Playback modes. Playback features include video playpause, seek, rewind, fast forward, among others, and a normal video window for viewing captured images. Applications can be run in the background while the MIL-Lite X OS is running. The operating system presents a graphical user interface which is intuitive and which can be fully customized using Matrox Imaging library functions. The windows, menus, and dialog boxes available to the user are wide enough to encompass a broad spectrum of applications. A variety of operating system options are available to the user, including multiple options for working within real time or for playing back images. 33, 36, 37 The installation of other software options on the MIL-Lite X computer is simple, and can be accomplished through direct download or download through an FTP server. 38, 39 MIL-Lite X OS supports both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. MIL-Lite X has drivers for all major operating systems, including Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista, Windows 2000, Windows XP, OS/2, macOS, and Linux.
